Set Your Environment Up For Your Success.

According to colon specialist Dr N Walker, “a well cleansed colon in perfect working order is absolutely essential for a long, productive and active life.” After the Christmas festivities, it’s now time to refocus on healthy eating. January is the month to clean out the gunk in our system, regain our bounce, feel more vibrant, energised and drop the unwanted pounds we might have gained over the holiday period.

January is KHL Healthy Eating Challenge Month. To increase your chances of success, it’s important that you set up your environment for your success and that involves some physical and mental preparations.

Here are a few tips to get you started.

Physical preparation
Get rid of all unhealthy foods like processed foods, sugary foods, sugary drinks, etc. Set a day for food shopping, commit to that day every week. Stock up with fresh food – fruits, vegetables, seafood, meats and whole foods. Plan your meals for the week, chop veggies and fruits ready to grab as snacks, batch cook meals and store in your fridge and freezer.

Once you’ve committed to starting afresh, look at your calendar, be aware of the places you might have to go to that could cause you to deviate from your healthy eating plan. Avoid places where you might be tempted to eat foods that are not in your plan if you have not built the will power to resist. If you must attend any event, party or meet up with friends who don’t have the same lifestyle goals, make sure you don’t go on a empty stomach so that if there are no healthy meals on the menu, you can pass the food.

Join a support group – a healthy living community of people who share similar goals. Make sure you join a group where the success rate is high or where there are experienced members who are consistent with healthy living. Choose your group wisely, the blind can’t lead the blind.


Mental preparation
You are what you tell yourself. A positive frame of mind and attitude is essential to your success. What are you telling yourself? That you don’t have the will power to overhaul your diet? That you’re too busy and don’t have the time?

Reprogram your mind! Make a conscious decision to get rid of self limiting language, self doubt, negative talk and negative beliefs in 2018. Stop saying ‘I can’t’ and start saying ‘I will’. Ditch the word ‘try’. Get rid of it from your vocabulary.

Yes, people say affirmations don’t work. What I found out is that they don’t work when there is doubt. They won’t work for you if you do not believe that you can do what you’re saying you will do. Wake up in the morning, tell yourself, ‘I will do this, I will abstain from all that does not nourish my body” and focus on achieving just that. Plant the thought in your mind, water it, tend it, watch it grow, watch it come alive! If you are focused solely on eating whole healthy foods this month, your thoughts will direct your actions.
